The Jellifish (alternative to a pick)
42
I have just recently stumbled upon this "Jellifish" and figured I would write about it.
The Jellifish is a nifty mechanical device that can be used to replace your pick giving you different sounds than you could normally not get with a standard pick.
The grip is made out of a highly durable plastic called Lexan and the tines are made out of compression-wound composite orchestra wire that is cut off at the ends creating a 24.7 degree angle. Rob Hendrickson; creator of the Jellifish, had came up with the first idea for it in 1997 and finally perfected it in the year 2004.
I have not got to use one of these items on my guitar yet but I am more than willing to pay the $10 for the promising sounds. The three major sounds it can create are, what the Jellifish company calls: 'Chorus!', 'Pluck!', and 'Bow!'. From what I have read on people's opinions, the Pluck! does not sound much different than a regular pick and the Bow! takes some time to get good at. The Chorus!, however, is supposedly the easiest to do and best sounding effect of them all. Mainly used on acoustic guitars, it will give your guitar a nice chorus effect or the sound of a twelve-string guitar.
It is said that these little picks will last up to about 3 months if used daily. Which, in my perspective, is well worth the pay. Especially if you just need it for a live show. Maybe not something I would continue investing my money into, but I would definitely consider buying one for my acoustic guitar. If you want something different than just that same old guitar pick, I would look into buying a Jellifish.
